The benefits of walking

 In Lifestyle

With the weather finally turning nicer and all the spring plants in bloom, more and more people are getting outside. Everyday we see working in their yards, exploring, or exercising.

Spring is a great time to try new things or recommit to something that maybe got forgotten over the long, cold winter. Today I want to highlight the benefits of walking.

You really can walk your way to health. Taking time to walk everyday can bring a multitude of great benefits. Here are just a few:

  • Improve cardiovascular fitness
  • Strengthen bones and muscle
  • Improve and maintain a healthy weight
  • Improve mood
  • Prevent stress and tension
  • Strengthen immune system
  • Increase energy

You should aim for 30 minutes of activity at least 5 days a week. If that seems too daunting you can break it up to a couple of smaller walks throughout the day. Take a brief walk during your lunch break to get the blood flowing to ward off the afternoon slump.

Park farther away from the entrance in parking lots to get in some extra steps. If you really want to know if you are moving around enough, pick up a pedometer or download a free app for your smartphone.

By committing to walking more each day you are really committing to improving your quality of life and increasing your chances of living a longer, happier life. So, get out there and take a walk!
