PRP for Achilles Tendon Tear
In continuation of our conversation on the benefits of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in the treatment of orthopedic injuries, I wanted to share an article written by Dr. Michael Meng, our pain and injury provider. Dr. Meng, along with a couple physicians, presented a case study on a 71 year old male with a severely torn Achilles tendon. As a first line treatment PRP was injected 26 days after the initial injury. Follow up imaging and evaluation were collected at 6 and 24 weeks post-injection. At 6 weeks, PRP injection resulted in a substantial reduction in torn Achilles tendon fibers. At 24 weeks post-injection the tear was completely resolved on MRI and the patient was able to return to full activity. To read the full article click here.
